SCHOOL PROFILE

Brief History of the University


Valaya Alongkorn Rajabhat University under the Royal Patronage was founded by Her Royal Highness Somdetch Phra Raja Pituchha Chao Fa Valaya Alongkorn, Krom Luang, the Princess of Phetchaburi, H. R. H. The education of the young Thai women was the utmost concern of the princess. On June 4, 2475 B. E. (1932 C. E.), she donated four rai (.64 hectare) of land to the Ministry of Education to establish Petchburiwittayalongkorn Teacher Training School. Currently, the land which was donated has now its new address namely Number 153, Petchburi Road, Thung Phayathai Subdistrict, Rajathevi Disrict, Bangkok. Previously, the land and building belonged to Phraya Phactpongsawisutthathibordi (Sun Sundravej). The first group of students include teacher-training students, other post-secondary students, and secondary school students (Matthayom 7 and 8) who were transferred from Benjamorajalai School with their first head master, Ajarn Nilrat Bansitvorasan. Letter “P” stands as the official school emblem while color green stands as the official school color for it is associated with Wednesday, the day of the week on which the H. R. H. Princess Valaya Alongkorn was born. Since then, the institute has performed the various duties of both post-secondary education with the specialization of training students to become teachers as well as secondary school education.

Mission

Valaya Alongkorn Rajabhat University under the Royal Patronage has the following mission under the Rajabhat University Act 2574 B. E., Articles 7 and 8: Article 7: The Rajabhat University will serve as a higher education institute focusing on local development in order to promote national knowledge, to restore the nation’s wealth of knowledge, to preserve local wisdom and to create new knowledge for the benefit , security, and prosperity of the Thai people. The Rajabhat University will engage in equitable and sustainable management, conservation and use of natural resources and the environment. The objectives of the Rajabhat University are to educate; promote academic and higher professional knowledge; teach; conduct research; provide academic services to Thai society; improve, distribute and develop technology; conserve art and culture; educate students for the teaching profession; and develop and upgrade the skills of teachers.


Article 5: In order to achieve Article 5, the Rajabhat University has the following duties:

  • To raise the level of teacher productivity and staff development through productive learning. To establish a network of cooperation in line with national development policy and in accordance with the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy.

  • To research and develop responses to local problems. To develop a variety of systems that can be used to improve the quality of life and strengthen the local community.

  • To develop collaborations between the university and the participants that fulfill its mission to disseminate information that promote the interests of the local community.

  • To encourage and cultivate cultural awareness and learning. To create an organizational culture that leads to inspiration.

  • To develop a higher quality management system that supports the sustainable development of the university.


History of the Faculty of Education

1946 - The Faculty of Education launched the Certificate Program in Education.

1970 - The Faculty of Education launched the Certificate of Higher Education.

1971 - The Faculty of Education launched Certificate of Primary Education.

1972 - All student teachers were moved to study at Petchburiwittayalongkorn Teacher Training College.

1975 - All teacher training college were upgraded based on the royal act as the result of having the bachelor degree program in teacher training colleges.

1978 - The Faculty of Education launched the Bachelor Degree (2-year program) for the first time.

1979 - There were training programs for teachers and educational personnel in both of the Certificate of Higher Education and Bachelor Degree.

1980 - The Faculty of Education stopped recruiting students for the Certificate of Higher Education program but recruited students for the Bachelor Degree (4-year program) instead.

1985 - The Faculty of Education stopped recruiting students for Certificate of Higher Education depending on the government policy which did not want the institutes to train student teachers lower than the bachelor degree.

1986 - The Faculty of Education started to launch the education management program for regular personnel (Bachelor Degree for 2-year program).

1987 - The Faculty of Education started Gurudhayadha Teacher Preparation Project. This project required smart students who have good behavior and the faith in teaching profession, to become teachers according to the needs of the Office of the National Primary Education Commission.


Since 2000, the Faculty of Education has administered all student teacher programs.

Vision

The Faculty of Education, Valaya Alongkorn Rajabhat University under the Royal Patronage is the role model of institute of education for developing human potential by focusing on the principle of Sufficiency Economy Philosophy and create the new innovation for local development to sustainability and prosperity.


Mission

1. To level up the effectivity to produce and develop qualified teachers and develop the human potential by Learning Management process, Productive Learning and create Civil State network for local development and focus on the principle of Sufficiency Economy Philosophy.

2. To develop researches and innovation to meet the need of local solving problems and to be as a model for one that can use this model for improving the quality of life and local strength.

3. To cooperate between university and stakeholders in order to develop university engagement and publish the Royal Projects to extend the concrete best practices to local people.

4. To promote religion, arts, and culture and create learning cultural consciousness. To conserve, restore and inherit the Thai cultural heritage, and to develop local cultural management system for continuing creative economy.

5. To develop an excellent Management system and good governance as a model of sustainable university.

3. People can live by following the Principle of Sufficiency Economy, strengthen community economy, happy life, and increase people’s revenue.
